Our understanding of interfaces started with simple text input, evolved into skeuomorphic graphics and treaded into the flat lines and gradients we now know. Much of what we started with, was about relating and understanding digital in terms of the screens, keyboards and traditional inputs we use. Automation, voice recognition, single scan interfaces and augmented reality has however found its place as new alternative touch points. By these touch points the next generation will connect themselves to the realms of the future.

Diversification should however come as no surprise. We live in an era where there is a constant tug of war for attention span. Instant gratification through simple likes and constant changes to the GUI’s are examples of how drastic the changes are. Whether these changes are for good or bad, it is inevitable, times have changed and so should we. Adaption and diversification are the rules of the game. These are the primitive types meant to unlock immense value. In the 4th industrial revolution we will not only seek to simplify and innovate, but also diversify.

My predicament for what is to come:

  • User experience will revolve around more than just graphical user inputs.
  • Attention spans will eventually become shorter, gratification & virtual recreation more and more important.
  • Uncovering latent and new customer needs ,based on channels of usage will become pivotal to innovation.
