All aboard! Kick out your shoes, grab a cup of steaming coffee and let’s get the imagination train running. In an age of radical change, the world economic forum has escalated creativity to second on the top needed skills by 2020.
But should we leave creativity to the creatives alone or can we learn to be more creative and innovative? Design thinking, creativity and Innovation is a cycle that everyone needs to embrace. As Steve jobs said : “Creativity is just having enough dots to connect . . . connect experiences and synthesize new things. The reason creative people are able to do that is that they’ve had more experiences or have thought more about their experiences than other people.” In my own words: “We need to apply conscious effort with our subconscious drive to find the silver lining in business feasibility.”
Innovation is not a single discipline but an open platform in which multiple ideas are encouraged by all disciplines. In our current era we cannot afford to be lone rangers but need to build bridges in our ideas in order to unlock new business value. We therefore need to talk to our customers, encourage wild ideas and adjust the measurement of our service offerings.
As we stretch our out of the box thinking ,we also need to estimate whether our offerings are worth it. This means we might need to start all over again….Rome simply wasn’t built in a day. It took years of iterations and refinement to get to a destination that seemed to redefine the world of before. We should never arrive…we should always improve. Simply put we need to welcome the age of constant change …
