UX designers have many roles and responsibilities which include researching users, planning and mapping interactions etc. UX simply drives the innovation of a product and demands a high standard of delivery on all platforms. It is for this reason most UX designers are Futuristic by trait and and loved by clients and product owners alike. UX simply gives a much needed competitive edge to businesses, and simplifies processes.

Pushing the boundaries can however account for endless hours of researching and create a huge amount of underestimated work and development effort. This effort can be intimidating if not depressing. So how do I approach members of my team which don’t understand the effort involved ? Here is my general approach:

Check your terminology. Don’t use words like: This is how we used to… or normally we…or…this is not possible. Rather say. I think it would be a better approach to… Lets see what the possibilities are…

Be adaptable. Were agile. Ask your UX designer and stakeholders if there is no alternative when you get stuck. UX needs to be just as agile and innovate as the rest of the team in finding intuitive solutions.

Find a coding partner. One plus one equals three. We code stronger when we help and support each other. Teams are most effective when they are dynamically solving puzzles. For this reason we attend user groups.

Research new methods and approaches . Research should encourage rather than discourage you. Be positive. The singularity hasn’t replaced you yet. Your in the age of tech and innovation, your IDE is your tool and google is your friend.

Involve all the stakeholders. If you really need to bend a light saber and its not possible , Check with our technical lead if you can and will be able to implement the changes early in your sprint , not towards the end.

Finding a balance between managing client expectations and offering amazing user experiences and code can be hard on all team members. This includes the UX designer trying to offer a decent prototype or design. As cliche as it seems, always remember: “Master your project ,don’t let your project ultimately master you.”
