More than they want to, my peer developers are battling the business scenarios and information that are passed their way. They live by the motto: Let’s get things done. Excellence however sometimes seems to be ignored. I therefore live by a code. The type that’s not to type , neither to script, but rather drives my motivation.
My Devcode to code therefore is:
*Code for excellence. The truth of the matter is: less code is more, more maintainable and requires more understanding. Understanding and communication must be prevalent in healthy business culture between development teams.
*Over communicate with my team. The more we share, the more we can transfer knowledge in this factor. In a world were kids of 10 start programming, information is a free commodity.
*Respect my peers – those who were before me. Be open to learn new tech. Make time to learn why, what’s new and what was. Structural thinking is of utmost importance.
*If you can’t learn anything new, create opportunities. Experiment with new technologies on the side and build an app for a friend. Creating my own code lab also drives my motivation to offer value to business.
*People care less and less about the cogs and wheels. Trust is bought by giving extra seats and help along the way. The tug of war between the DOM and the information highway is great. As Yoda would say: “Respect the UI guy you must.”
From UI to code, Type your script, check your components, viewmodels and workflows alike. But live by the motto of excellence, character and value to business. Make your code a discipline.
