What motivates us to get up in the morning? Is it the drive to thrive and climb the ladder to yet another bigger salary or paycheck? As cliché as it seems, there’s some things money can’t buy. Recruitment companies and employers alike often times think they can buy your loyalty. But the truth is company culture, ownership, drive and responsibility needs to come from within.
Ethos is paramount to company survival. Regulating employees only treats the symptoms of lacking business culture. Creating an environment in which people will foster and enjoy being responsible citizens keeps employees in balance. We’re not in Hollywood and the world isn’t waiting. It’s moving at a fast and disruptive pace. Somewhere in the middle, investing into people’s lives becomes apparent. The same is true for employees investing in their companies. It’s a two way relationship of trust. The matter of the fact is impact. How much impact does an employee’s call to action create? Is their impact a commodity that seems true to invest in?
My prediction is that the job hoppers of today will become the sorrow of tomorrow. There are too many empty vials in the world – people who lack substance and work ethic. Often time’s projects don’t suffer the lack of management but people running away when the going gets tough. An engine simply can’t run without the cogs and wheels that keep the motor running.
My call to action therefore is: Are you a worthwhile investment, who takes ownership and exceeds the performance of your qualifications or experience?
